The Young Professionals of Mobile (YP of MOB) is a private organization consisting of individuals between 21-40 years of age across the Mobile region. Our mission is to foster networking, career development, and civic involvement among young professionals. YP of MOB is hosting our 2nd Annual Board Readiness Program which aims to shape how young professionals in Mobile partake in civic leadership and meaningfully engage with the community.

Overview

The YP of MOB Board Readiness Program exposes members to a diverse group of nonprofits over a calendar year. Through the program, the selected YP participants are invited to sit for the year as a non-voting member on the Board of Directors of the selected nonprofit participants. We hope that the YP participants will observe and learn firsthand how to be an effective civic leader from the executive directors and the board members. We also want the YP participants to become involved with the nonprofit they serve alongside as volunteers and continue to champion their mission.

Expected Outcomes

• Foster civic engagement from a new, diverse, and passionate cohort of young professionals.
• Drive organizational and professional development by exposure to best practices.
• Deepen the connections of nonprofits with rising leaders in our community.

Obligations of the YP of MOB Exec Team

• Host a Training Session on Sept. 22, 2026 from 11:30am-1pm for the selected YP participants on the overview of board-member responsibilities and obligations, fundraising, and executive presence.
• Assign one or two YP participants to a nonprofit participant based upon alignment of schedule/availability and values/interests.
• Host a Match Day on Sept. 29, 2026 from 5:30-7pm at the Mobile Chamber to allow both YP and nonprofit participants to meet who they'll be partnered with for the duration of the 2027 Board Readiness Program.
• Develop and distribute a quarterly survey to all participants to assess the program's effectiveness and gather feedback.

Requirements of Selected YP Board Readiness Participants

• Attend the Training Session and Match Day mentioned above.
• Attend all scheduled board meetings, only one absence can be excused.
• Volunteer at least once, specifically at an Annual Event if applicable.
• Complete the surveys that YP Exec Team distributes quarterly.
• Must be an active YP of MOB member at the time of application, as well as during the board term. Click here to renew your membership or join us today.

Requirements of Nonprofit Board Readiness Participants

• Provide the YP participant(s) a list of all board meetings in advance to ensure scheduling ease.
• Meet with the YP participant(s) at the beginning of the year to review expectations.
• Invite the YP participant(s) to volunteer at a fundraising event or an Annual event if applicable.
• Complete the surveys that YP Exec Team distributes quarterly.
