Memorial Day Flag Raising

Monday May 29, 2023 is Memorial Day. The day set aside to honor all Veterans who have passed away particularly those fallen in battle. It is a solemn time to remember, but it is also a much-needed reminder to all of us left behind that our uniquely American freedoms are not free.

The South Alabama Veterans’ Council (SAVC) will conduct a flag raising ceremony 7:00 AM Monday May 29, 2023 at the Vietnam Memorial in USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park. 

The public is cordially and enthusiastically invited to attend. The SAVC offers this ceremony as an appropriate memorial to our Veterans, but also as a reminder to all that it is only through the sacrifices of the men and women of our armed services that we are able to enjoy and preserve our rights and freedoms. It is incumbent on all of us to carry on this tradition and ensure it is passed on to our youth. These ideals of service and sacrifice are integral to patriotism and vital to the survival of our American way of life. Please bring your family and join us Memorial Day to honor those who made liberty possible.
