Description
The Mobile Arts Council is proud to announce its upcoming November and December 2026 exhibitions, Jenyes presents his self-titled show Jenyes Mind, and Atonement by Wendell Smith.
Jenyes Mind by Jenyes
Through vivid, symbolic portraiture, Jenyes explores Black identity, resilience, and imagination. The exhibition features portraits of Black figures whose heads contain intricate inner worlds, where chaos and brilliance coexist as reflections of lived experience.
Jenyes Mind invites viewers to consider the mind as both a battlefield and a sanctuary, examining the challenges and triumphs that shape Black excellence. Each work encourages dialogue surrounding the beauty, struggle, and power embedded in personal and collective narratives. Together, the collection celebrates creativity, survival, and the visionary futures that emerge from within.
Atonement by Wendell Smith
Atonement brings together drawing, painting, and sculptural and installation-based forms to explore personal, historical, and cultural experiences within Caribbean society. Through the recurring themes of space, the body, and displacement, Smith examines the ways identity and lived experience are shaped by cultural environments and histories.
Smith's work incorporates varied materials, including wire, cords, and clothespins, using their distinct associations and applications to frame the viewer's experience. Rooted in the folk traditions of the Caribbean and Central America, Atonement draws upon symbolism, metaphor, and representations of the human figure as vehicles for artistic expression. Through shifts in style, material, and surface presentation, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the complex relationships between place, culture, and identity.
