September 23 & 24, 2023 – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 16+ $10 MMofA members / $20 non-members Tapestry weaving is a specialized type of weaving in which the warp (vertical threads attached to the loom, usually cotton seine twine) is completely covered by the weft (colorful threads that cross the warp horizontally, usually wool). It is distinct from cloth weaving and focuses on creating imagery. This beginning tapestry weaving class will include basic skills such as creating angles and curves, color blending, soumak, and pick and pick techniques. We will weave on a small simple frame loom which will be prepared ahead of time so we can get straight to learning weaving techniques and aim to complete a small tapestry by the end of the class. Warps and wefts will be provided by the instructor. Please bring your scissors, notebook and pencil, a measuring device.
