Description
The City of Mobile and other local agencies and organizations will celebrate the career of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby at the Dedication of Shelby Point. On Friday, December 9, the City of Mobile will host a dedication ceremony for Shelby Point to permanently honor Alabama’s longest-ever serving senator, who is retiring in January after 36 years in Washington and 51 years in public service. The dedication will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 9, at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. The Alabama Port Authority, City of Mobile, Mobile Chamber of Commerce, Mobile County Commission, Mobile Airport Authority, The University of South Alabama and more than 50 local businesses have come together to recognize Shelby’s unparalleled tenure in the Senate and celebrate his lasting impact on Mobile. During the dedication ceremony on December 9, multiple stakeholders will unveil a full-scale model of a bust of Senator Shelby that will be installed at the Southeast corner of the Mobile Convention Center property along with a plaque recognizing his years of public service. Through his tireless support for the area at the federal level, Senator Shelby has had a lasting positive impact on Mobile. Join us as we recognize his service and unveil a new amenity on downtown’s waterfront that will ensure future generations know what Senator Shelby has done for Mobile.
